Friendsgiving Part 1

I have Friendsgiving tonight... a bunch of JAGs and friends who have not gone home to their families will gather and eat a Thanksgiving meal.  I am making roasted veggies and maple squash with spinach and dried cranberries, both figure friendly and very tasty.  Unfortunately I have no idea what everyone else is making so I guess I will have to make my game plan blind.

Game Plan:
  • Eat my snacks/food beforehand so I am not starving when I get there.
  • Fill half my plate up with my veggie delights
  • Fill the other half with turkey
  • Hopefully I will not want anything else, but if I do, I will have a dollop of potatoes
  • I shouldn't get dessert, but I am going to want it.  If I can, resist.  But if not, have something small!
Now... off to the gym!

What are you doing here??

I am a Navy JAG meaning that I work as an attorney for the Navy, but also that I am an Officer IN the Navy.  I am a Legal Assistance attorney that provides assistance to our service members, their dependents, retirees and reservists.  Last week I spent a week onboard the USS Nimitz conducting Legal Assistance while observing 50 cal shoots, seeing their weapons stores, combat systems, and primary flight.   It is a great job that I love, but unfortunately my waistline has started expanding as my time in the Navy continues.

The Navy has physical fitness and body fat standards and I meet/exceed them, but I am not looking nearly as cute/hot as I did before.  Since joining the Navy I have gained about 15 pounds and that needs to change.

It would be easy for me to go into excuses as to why I gained the weight, but I doubt that will help me slim down any faster!!  (Rather I might just get fatter as I start thinking those happy hours were so much fun.)  So what I am going to do is write down all my goals and we'll go from there:
  1. To be a size 2
  2. To run a mile in 7:30 and a mile and a half in 10:30
  3. To do 10 unassisted pull ups in one set
  4. To wear this great green dress that I love but haven't been able to wear
  5. To compete in a bikini competition? (I don't know about this one yet, but it does fascinate me)
Where am I at now?
  1. Definitely not a 2: I currently weigh 137.2
  2. I can run a mile in 8:30 and a mile and a half in 12:39
  3. I can do 6 unassisted pull ups, don't remember if I have to pause or if I can push through one set
  4. Not wearing the great green dress (can't even zip it!!)
  5. Haven't worn a bikini in I think a year
Now that I know where I am and where I would like to be, how am I going to get there?

I purchased a promo for the Fresh Diet online which gave a weeks worth of food.  I am on Day 2 of the food and I must say I am impressed.  This morning I am eating a huge fruit salad with yogurt, I will eat a philly cheesesteak for lunch and then take it easy at my JAG-Friendsgiving tonight.

Since the Fresh Diet is going so well, when I was invited to their Black Friday Special ($24.99/day) I signed up for a couple of months.  I looked at my bills/finances and realized that I have been spending twice that amount on eating out!  What I do buy at the grocery store... I never cook so I have been wasting a lot of food and eating a LOT of calories for no good reason.  So now I am making sure that I never miss a meal and that I can always stay on track.

When I first lost weight I cooked every meal timed everything perfectly and was completely devoted.  Now I am devoted, but I need help getting back on track and saving some time.  Hopefully this will start me on the right track.

I do feel a bit like I am copping out.  Why not just cook the food yourself and save a bunch of money?  I know, right?!!  I tried.  Maybe I didn't try hard enough, but I also want to see if giving me a break from cooking will give me the breathing room I need to actually have hobbies again.

So that where I am at for now... I will update you on Friendsgiving and how much weight I am (hopefully!) losing.  Wish me luck!
